Man, aren’t you sick of these radio stations that only play music from a playlist? They play all the hits it seems just to appease the advertisers. Such a drag. There’s so much great music out there, and it all gets thrown to the side or only played late at night. Well it just sucks. We never get to hear the rarities during our normal workday. Not that I haven’t enjoyed listening to the hits like “With Or Without You”, “Comfortably Numb”, “Tom Sawyer”, or “My My Hey Hey”, but these artists have so much more to offer than just these songs… over and over and over again.
And I’m not just talking about classic rock… jazz stations and classical music stations do that hit playing too. ”The Girl from Ipanema” and Beethoven’s Pastoral Symphony all day long. These are wonderful pieces of music and they are worth being played again and again, but can’t you play some deeper cuts? And maybe add some trivia or an interview with an artist too?
There is hope. Now that we have access to such a great variety of radio from all over the world via the internet, I’ve found one true gem of a radio station. Hand picked music by the DJ for their own show. If more radio stations would follow their model I’m sure music lovers worldwide would be very, very grateful.

Instead of playing only Bob Marley as part of their reggae items, they’ll play a classic Toots and the Maytalls song like “Monkey Man”. They’ll play great artists like XTC, Killing Joke and Lee “Scratch” Perry. These are bands that have influenced thousands of musicians across several genres of music, but these originators hardly ever get played on the radio… at least not on these commercial stations here in the States.
Talk to the 10Radio DJs
Another wonderfully refreshing aspect about 10Radio is that you can email, call in or text in your requests, and actually have them played! That’s if they can find your obscure song. I’ve given them some really out there requests and somehow they found it and played it!
It’s so much fun to have interaction with a real DJ instead of listening to the automatic lists that the other commercial stations play. From King Crimson to UB40 to pipe organ music to poets and spoken word… go ahead and check out their shows, and see if there’s one you might like to tune into regularly.
