Would you like to create a lovely atmosphere in your office? Sometimes the drone of typing, coworkers telephone conversations, and that stupid love song… again can really get to you.  There’s only so much adult contemporary one can take! Well, here’s an alternative for you.

I came across a podcast on iTunes called Soundscapes for Birders. Please visit their website for the podcast link: http://7loons.com/Soundscapes_for_Birders/Welcome.html … It’s fabulous. There are about 40 or more podcasts ranging from 4 minutes long to 15 minutes long. The sounds are so soothing and they are great for work. It makes you feel like you are working outside with nature instead of behind a computer! Another wonderful thing about the podcasts are the descriptions. Just the little bit of background to go along with the sounds is very helpful and entertaining too. I hope you will enjoy this podcast as much has I do.

Have you ever just sat and watched a bird for a long time?  I got video of this Cooper’s Hawk sitting at the top of a tree one day.  He was just sitting there for a long time.  So I put some music to it and put it up for you to see!

About the birds in this video…

I saw this roadrunner outside my window while working on the computer.  It was just sitting on the wall for a very long time.  I thought that when I opened the door he or she would run away.   But luckily it stayed there and let me zoom in really close.

Just a couple of days before I got this video clip of an oriole relaxing on a palm branch in the wind, I had hit an oriole with my car.  I was driving down a narrow country road when all of a sudden two male orioles fell from a tree and landed on the hood of my car.  They were fighting as they were falling.  They weren’t paying attention to cars passing by because they were so caught up in their fight.  There was no way I could’ve stopped.  They were aiming straight for the hood of my car.  I felt so bad. One of them fell on the road and the other one flew away.  I stopped my car and tried to get out to see the bird I’d hit.  Another car was coming so I had to wait.  Luckily the other car didn’t run him over.  After the car passed, I got out and picked up the beautiful orange and black bird.  I held him in my bare hands.  He took a couple of deep breaths then died.  Crying, I took him to the Humane Society.  I thought maybe there was still a chance that he had just passed out.  But the woman said he had died.  I’ll never forget that day.  Orioles will always be one of my favorite birds.

In the Ojai Meadows Preserve a turkey vulture suns itself.  I got this shot in the early morning.  The sun was very low in the sky and there was a heavy mist/drizzle that created a rainbow.  I saw this dead tree with a bunch of turkey vultures on it.  I knew I’d be late to where I was going, but I couldn’t miss this shot!

Also in the Ojai Meadows Preserve, a white heron comes in for a landing.  It was difficult to keep zoomed in on the bird and follow him as he flew.  I’ll get better with more practice.

The music in this video is by The Maheekats, and the song is Mr. Radio Man.

I was just sitting around having lunch outside when this wonderful Thrasher came out from under the bushes and started preening and pecking around at the ground.  Music is by The Maheekats.
